ST CUTHBERT'S BADMINTON CLUB
St Cuthbert's Badminton Club was formed on 11th October 1945 when the Rector called a meeting to see if something could be formulated to accommodate those too old for the junior organisations belonging to the church and it was resolved that a badminton club should be formed on Monday nights from 8pm till 10pm.
The committee voted Lt. Col. Roger Fleetwood Hesketh as President and he held that position for many years, attending Annual General Meetings and offering the use of the Hall for the celebration of the club's 50th anniversary.
In October 2015 the club celebrated its 70th anniversary at North Meols tennis club where a fantastic evening was enjoyed by past and present members.
Getting together socially is what this club does often and considers it an important factor of the club. It's about enjoyment on court and off!
We have two "fun" tournaments in the season one half way through the season and one a handicapped tournament at the end. The latter is played for a trophy remembering a much loved and missed member of the club.
We have five teams in the Southport league and our venues are St Cuthbert's Hall on Monday, Banks Leisure Centre on Tuesday (which is for matches) and the Spinal Unit at the hospital on Fridays.
We are known in the league as a "friendly club" and we welcome players who play and those who have played badminton in the past.
